Lyn's Thoughts on Life

if they only knew

Our church has a cry room at the back, it's a room with windows into the main auditorium so moms can sit back there with their babies and still be able to see what's going on through a one-way window (mirrored on the other side).

Yesterday I was in there with Danica and I guess some of the people on the other side didn't realize it was a one way mirror and that someone was behind the mirror, as they were all checking themselves out, doing their hair, etc. It was quite funny to watch...especially since they were all 20-something guys....this one guy was standing talking to some friends and repeatedly checked and fussed with his hair over the 20 minutes he was there....

I would definitely recommend a one-way-mirror as a great entertainment tool while you're trying to get your baby to sleep, lol.

I knew it was just a matter of time

until I fell on the ice. Unfortunately I did it twice in one day. Fortunately, I was not carrying Danica either time.

But that will be the last time I try shovelling for a while, sigh. And I knew it was icy so I was trying to be careful! At least the injuries are only minor, some bruising and sore/stiff muscles & joints.

sigh.

Well, with Christmas approaching, I guess it's inevitable that Winter arrives too. I'm not a fan of winter, and I think it will be even worse this year than usual....on Sunday I was carrying Danica in her car seat across the snow/ice and I realized that if I fall, it's much worse now, as she goes down too. That scares me.

And from what I hear, this ice/snow is now here to stay. For some reason, this year, I kinda forgot that snow would eventually come, and found myself surprised when it did....I must have been in denial. So I hope the snow/ice doesn't scare me indoors this winter; i'm not much of a homebody, I like to be out and about, so being home a lot might become a big drag.

already?

I was taken slightly off guard a couple weeks ago...Nov 1 to be exact....I was in winners doing a bit of browsing, and they were playing Christmas music! It seemed incredibly early, but since then I have noticed that it is starting to creep in to the repetoire at nearly every store I've been at.

I love Christmas music, and I love Christmas, but it just seemed so early this year. The ironic thing, though, is that I had already started my Christmas shopping in October, and am nearly half done already....usually I keep to my solemn vow not to do any Christmas shopping until Dec 1. But this year, with more time on my hands and shopping as one of our favourite hobbies, it's nice to be able to buy things that catch my eye for specific people and feel good about (a) spreading the Christmas cash crunch over 3 months instead of just 1, (b) not having to be out last minute grabbing things, and (c) being able to spend money with a purpose instead of just browsing at things and telling myself "oh, i shouldn't spend money, we don't really need that". It's kinda like grocery shopping now, I love going grocery shopping (even more than I used to), because it's "legitimate" shopping, I am buying things we will need/use, and I'm actually saving money because I'm getting things on sale (i've turned into an even bigger flyer shopper - but i've had to stop buying meat 'cuz our freezer is full... I think we have every kind of meat imaginable in there..but there's such good deals every week! But I know that the money I spend on groceries is put to good use, so it's good shopping with no guilt.

Anyways, I digress. Christmas. Yes. I am looking forward to it, and am excited to spend the next 6 weeks getting ready.
