Lyn's Thoughts on Life

November 29, 2004

NOW...

that I am done with the November birthdays, I can begin to prepare for Christmas.

The Christmas elves came to my office on Friday and decorated the place, so at least a part of my life is already festive. But I haven't bought a single present or put up a single decoration at home, not to mention the baking which hasn't been started.

I think I need to make some lists...."to do", "to buy", "to bake"...

Do you think that Christmas is overdone and over-commercialized? Does the bustle stress you or energize you? Do you think we're missing the meaning?

phew!

so I spent an enjoyable weekend attending (and hosting) parties and functions. Got to see a lot of friends and family, and a jolly good time was had.

But now I need two things, ok 3: Sleep, a break from delicious but fattening food, and some good quality one-on-ones with close friends. I saw a ton of people but really didn't get to connect with any of them, to really see how they're doing and what's new in their lives and minds. And I miss that.

Theme of the evening: Blast from the Past

So I had a wonderful evening last night.

My best friend from my high school years and I got together for coffee. We kinda lost touch with each other after high school (our lives were going very different directions), but when I moved back here for University, we got reconnected and have been in somewhat frequent contact for the past few years.

But last night was a reconnection on a different level. We got deep, about life, love, God and everything else that really matters. It was just neat, becuase it totally reminded me of the way our friendship was before we lost touch. We are quite different in a lot of ways now, but it was neat how our friendship seemed to transcend that. It was ok that we were different, ok that we were coming from different perspectives now.

It made me realize how much i cherish her, even though we haven't been close for quite a while now. She's an amazing person; has come through so much and still been able to accomplish amazing things in her life. And she challenges me to think deeply about life, faith, and love, not just accept them as they are handed to me. And granted, we have reached some different conclusions by examining the same things, but that's what life is about...diversity of opinions, perspectives and outlooks.

We also had some great moments after coffee, back at her place, looking through her old journal from a time at which we were very close. Ah, the good ol' teenage years when life seems so complex, but you look back on it and realize it's nothing compared to life as an adult. The funniest thing was seeing how all the teenage relationships developed, blossomed, struggled, and ended, only for another to start. Incidentally, this was the time period in my life during which I was "dating" chris friesen out in M'ville, so there were many stories in there about us heading out to M'ville for youth and good times.

So we've decided that we're gonna try to plan a bit of a reunion with the people we hung out with during that time, for sometime on the christmas break. That should be super interesting times, catching up with everyone.

But i just have to say thank you to her. Thank you for accepting me back into your life. Thank you for your gift of friendship. And like your journal said, here's to many more years of being "friends forever". You enrich my life. I love you, girl!

(and yah, WAYYYYYYYYYYYY back, i predicted that she'd marry Marc, and now here she is, engaged to Marc - albeit a different Marc, but still marrying Marc!)

0 More Sleeps!!!!!!!!!!!

So today is a VERY special day.

Today is the day that Old Navy opens (actually, pre-opens) in Saskatoon.

Today is the day where we will have another good quality, low cost clothing store that carries styles and sizes that suit me and my budget.

It is unfortunate that I won't be able to make it there until 8:30pm due to work and piano, but I will sure be making the most of that last half hour before they lock the doors.

So to my fellow old navy lovers (or those just beginning to explore this wonderful place), happy shopping, for now and forever more in Saskatoon!

(and if you're there around 8:30, I'll see you there!)
