Lyn's Thoughts on Life

ramblings

Ok, I know it's been a while...every time I come down to the computer (which is only a couple times a week these days), there is so much to do (pay bills, etc) and not very much time, thus the blogging gets neglected. So here's my apology, if there's anyone left out there to read it :)

So, whatcha think about this provincial election stuff? I'm glad the NDP stopped monkeying around and finally called it, but I really don't have a sense of how it's gonna turn out. I know how I'd like it to turn out, and will do what I can to ensure that end, but we'll see next week, I guess.

This year we actually bought halloween candy for the kids, and i think we had about 20 kids, so now we have leftover candy to eat. Sigh. I bought about 15o pcs, and I think we gave away about half.

Had a great trip to Calgary a couple weeks ago with Danica to see my sister & brother in law and niece. Did lots of shopping, took care of Liv (2 yrs) and Danica alone for a day (that went surprisingly well), and really enjoyed ourselves, but then upon coming home I feel like I haven't had a moment to catch up on housework, etc....there's just too much to do. How did I manage when I was working f/t????

We finally were able to secure a supplier for the bathroom tub taps that I have been wanting for months, so now that project can finally move ahead...they should arrive in about a week or so! Yay! So the goal is to have the bathroom finished in time for the Christmas Party....

Inspired by the napkins I bought at Ikea and the idea of an open house Christmas party from the Friesen's in PA, we're having a come and go appetizer & sweets party on Dec 29....stay posted for details, and mark your calendars!

now that's a deal!

When I was born, my mom got me a little trinket thingy (a ceramic shoe) with my name, birth date, time of birth, height & weight painted on it, and I really like having it as a memento of all those details, so we decided to try to find something for Danica (for her Christmas present this year, shhh, don't tell her!)

So after looking around at a few of those gift-y/engraving stores, and not finding anything I really liked (i'm not into the 'baby-ish' stuff that much), i finally found a gorgeous pewter box with a hinged lid and an elegant flower design, nice velvet inside, and room on the top for engraving. The box was a reasonable $30, but when I inquired about engraving, I was told it would be 80 cents per letter/character. Well, Danica has a very long name, and once all the other birth details were added, I did a rough estimate that it would be $40-50 for just the engraving alone! Ouch!

So i went down to the other engraving store in midtown, and they too charged 80 cents per letter, plus a setup fee if the item wasn't bought from them. No thanks. I was sure I could find a better deal.

So I took out my phonebook, and a listing for "listowel trophies" caught my eye, I gave them a call and they charge 39 cents per character, no setup fee. So we went there, and they did a beautiful job on the box, for a total price of $20.39. I'm sure they have more experience in engraving than the store clerks that work in the other two stores, as this is their focus and specialty, and it is a local business instead of a big chain store. So i was very happy to give them my business, and would highly recommend them to anyone needing anything engraved. Sometimes it sure pays to shop around!
