Lyn's Thoughts on Life

December 20, 2004

eeeeek! only 5 days!

I have SO much to finish before Christmas. Unlike you keeners who finished most of your shopping before December even came, and who have had all the gifts wrapped for days, I still have a few items to purchase and a LOT of wrapping to do. But I don't mind...this is usually when I finish that type of thing up.

HOWEVER, I also have decorating, baking, etc. to finish, and I am simply running out of time! This past weekend was taken up by a lovely wedding on Saturday (Kudos to Marc n Ang for being able to pull off a beautiful wedding planned in just 2 months, and executed the week before Christmas without going insane!), and then on Sunday, our beloved sister (in-law, for me) Arleen, returned home from 14 months in Taiwan. It was VERY good to see her again, and to begin to hear some of her stories from the past year and a bit. It's amazing how normal it felt to have her home, just like she'd only been gone on holidays for a couple weeks or something....

On Saturday morning before the wedding, Anthony and I ran around the city trying to find THE christmas tree for this year's festivities....we finally found a nice one at IGA, and it was on discount, so we only paid $10, which is a super bonus. It's a very nicely shapen tree, with very soft needles - no pokies at all when we set it up last night and decorated it.

So now the only thing between me and getting everything else done for Christmas is work. 3 more days left, and then after that, 2 hectic days getting the rest of everything done! Ah, the bustle. I have to say I like it. I'm planning to finish my shopping the morning of the 23rd, and I'm excited to be in the malls at that time, with the rest of the last minute shoppers, the music, etc. And I'm also excited because after that bustle (which i always anticipate loving, but then feel SO sore and tired and grumpy after....), I will be going to see Angie for a lovely massage. Mmmmm...that should start the rest of my holidays off right!

Ok, now to get through the next 3 days at work....

I have to say...

that i like the older, slower, mainly sacred christmas songs the best. the other ones are fun, but ones like "oh holy night" and "angels from the realms of glory" really put me in the christmas spirit. or perhaps awaken the spirit of christmas within me.

especially when they're a bit jazzed up (as in done in a jazz style, not as in made fancy and loud and fast). Like Carl Anderson (whoever he is), singing "Oh holy night" on my iceberg.com web-radio right now :) MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Christmas.

So much to look forward to in the next month. So many people to see, get-togethers, family gatherings, Christmas programs....this year, more than the past few, I am really looking forward to this season. I think i've fully transitioned to an "adult" christmas, instead of trying to recreate what made me excited (and what bored me to death) as a kid. I used to love christmas morning and the presents, now I'm excited about the preparations, and the family gatherings, even the snow and the whole atmosphere of it.
