So yesterday I went with my parents & Danica to Costco to buy diapers and a few other things...and to have samples, of course. It's almost like a free meal as you make your way about the store.
So at this one sample station, the lady was making this rice & chicken mixture, I approached as she dished out a taste, handed it to me, I took a bite & she was giving her schpiel (sp?) about the products she had to offer, I asked her a question about the product...
It was at that point that my brain said "hey Lynette, this lady's voice is familiar" and I looked up and sure enough, it was Gwen, a sweet lady from our church who I even knew worked at Costco. The funny thing is, up to that point, she hadn't really noticed it was me at her station either. Neither of us had paid enough attention to the server/customer we were dealing with to truly see/hear the other person for who she was.
It was a funny incident on the surface, but it made me stop & think about how often i do this to people on a daily basis, not stopping to take time to really listen to them and hear what they're saying (and what they're not).
