They say it's good to try something new...

Tomorrow, i have plans to do something I've never done before, but since hearing about it, have wanted to try it - geocaching....

If you don't know what it is, basically it's a treasure hunt using GPS - you go online (www.geocaching.com) and look up the coordinates of a hidden cache in your area, then you go find it. Typically GPS's will take you within 20-30 m (i think) of the exact spot, then you get to search manually to find the cache - usually a small waterproof container.

It typically contains a bunch of small items, and a log book. Once you've found it, you sign the book, leave a small item, take one of the items, and go home and log your 'find' on the website to register your visit.

geocaching.com has a lot of details on different types of caches, proper protocol, etc. if you're interested.

The one Lorianne & i plan to go to is out at an offleash dog park, so we're taking Jessa, and Caramel & Mac are here again this weekend, so we'll have our hands full! Maybe if there's food in the cache they'll lead us right to it :)

Should be fun! It will be helpful to go with someone who's done this before - my dad just got a GPS and he and i have talked about going, but have no clue what we're doing, so maybe after this weekend, i can take him.

is there a difference between a lie and deception?

for example, if a friend says something to you that is completely untrue, it is a lie. But if both of you know a priori that it was completely untrue, then it is not deception, even though it is a lie....right?

does that make any sense?

LIE:

a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.
an inaccurate or false statement.

DECEPTION:

the act of deceiving; the state of being deceived.
something that deceives or is intended to deceive; fraud; artifice.



So, i guess it depends which definition of lie you use....is it "with deliberate intent to deceive" or is it just a "false statement" or "falsehood".....

have you ever tasted something that sorta repulses you, but you want to have more nonetheless?

i'm trying a new tea - it's called Tension Tamer....and it has a bunch of things in it that i don't like in a tea - peppermint, roeship, and i think some black licorice too...

every sip is like "ick" but yet i like it, and keep drinking it....

i think it's all about getting used to a new flavor combination.

It seems like thanksgiving is one of the few (if not only) semi-major holidays that is not really impacted by commercialism - the type that often overshadows the real meaning and history behind a given holiday.

No turkeys handing out...giblets...wings....or even eggs....very few ads inducing you to buy things in order to have the 'ultimate' celebration (except maybe food), and a focus on being with family.

Heck, even the people who have no clue what it's about can get a good hint by thinking of the name of the holiday THANKS-giving, not so clear on Easter, and people often overlook CHRISTmas.

It should come as no surprise that "feelings of gratitude may be beneficial to subjective emotional well-being" (wikipedia), but it's something we (or at least I) do not always come by easily....it does take a conscious choice to display an attitude of thankfulness. So whatever your weekend entails, take a moment to think of all the things you've been blessed with, and say thanks - to God, of course, but also to your family, friends, acquaintances, everyone!

the dogs were never in a bag, they're too smart for that

Here's a couple pics of Jessa with her "cousins" - Arleen's dogs Caramel & Mac (5 month old black labs - Caramel is the smaller of the two)....they stayed with us this past weekend....great fun! The yard looks like a tornado hit it, though......the 3 of them pulled all the dead plants out of the garden and shredded them all over the lawn, and dug quite a few holes...jessa was so muddy we just gave up and left her outside until she played most of it off...

Jessa does not like other dogs - she's usually pretty aggressive/defensive around other dogs. But she got used to these two during the summer, and now she just LOVES them. They all play fight together, and she has just as much (if not more) energy than they do. She cries when they leave, and is so excited when they're with us that she wakes up at 5 and wants to go play with them (usually she'll sleep 'till 7 or 8).

Let me tell you, walking all three of them at once is a fun challenge.....it's ok as long as they're all going in the same direction....

Last week, i went online and bought tickets to Matt Dusk for Tony, myself, and a few friends (who were in on it), i was going to surprise him and take him out for a wonderful evening.

I even avoided posting about it here, as we now have internet at home and thus he can access my blog if he so chooses.

I didn't have much of an elaborate plan, and i knew i would be telling him about it well before the concert date, but now he knows....

We usually talk when he gets home from work, and he'll open the mail while we chat....today he said "Oh, there's a letter here for you from the Credit Union" (one of the places i bank), so i asked him to open it and let me know what it was....well, it was actually from Credit Union Centre, and it was the tickets...oops! He's like "um, there's six tickets to Matt Dusk in here....."

but he was pretty excited, he really likes Matt Dusk's music and we haven't been out to a concert in quite a while. And since TFK is off my radar now....should be a good time.
