play date

So, tonight, Jessa gets to meet the two dogs we sometimes dogsit - Kita & Daisy.

We are taking care of them at our house for a few hours this evening, so we shall see how the introductions go.

Jessa was pretty good with Arleen's two dogs after about 30 minutes of introducing them slowly to each other, but those dogs are smaller than her (at least for now) - she tends to be more afraid (and therefore more defensive and bark-y and growly) of dogs that are bigger than her, which both Kita & Daisy are (but just by a little bit).

They're all husky-shepherd mix, so once they get to know each other and develop their pecking order, it will be fun to have all of them around at once.

And worst case scenario, if the meet n greet does not go well at all, Jessa can stay inside and the other two can have the yard. At least it's just for a couple hours, not even overnite for this first visit.

update...

I talked to Garry, the guy organizing the family reunion for whuch we are cooking this coming weekend, and it turns out that one of the families attending are vegetarian - so that kinda changes things...makes them a bit more complex.

I think we'll just make sure there's a dish of something on the side that they can eat.

Pluto Loses Planet Status

Has anyone thought about how pluto feels about this? I mean, yeah, it's small-ish and all, but really! It's been thinking of itself as a Planet for over 60 years, and now in a poof, it's simply NOT one anymore? What has this world come to?

my new profession?

So, i got a call the other night, from Camp Kadesh. Seems they have a family reunion renting the place on the Sept long weekend, and they need to hire a cook, so they were wondering if i'd be interested....

i guess they must have liked my food that week i was up there (or they're desperate).

So yeah, i can hire 2 assistants, and the pay for the weekend is great! So Anthony and his sister Amy are going to come cook with me, it's 3 days, about 70 people. Not sure what the menu looks like yet, will hopefully find that out tonite.

If this goes well, i just might think about doing something in the food industry in January when my current job is done (NOT waitressing or working at a restaurant, tho) - it would be quite a change for me, but i really enjoy this kind of stuff.

It's been really interesting over the past year or so to see this passion of mine grow and develop, and to see opportunities coming my way to try things out and stretch myself in this area. It makes me wonder what's coming next....what this is all preparing me for...

That was probably easier than typing 5,000 words about our trip, which wouldn't even be enough to tell of everything we saw and experienced (and you probably would all have stopped reading after 600 words or so). Come for coffee some nite if you want the whole story and the rest of the pics! (i'll probably have either apple pie or plum something baking, given the state of my kitchen right now - why does all the fruit have to ripen at once? Sigh.)

Introducing....

Jessa

Jessa is our new dog....she is a 1 year old female husky-shepherd cross (mostly shepherd in appearance except for the light color on her face, legs and belly, and the blue eyes). We got her through New Hope Dog Rescue, she was abandoned as a pup and then taken into a home, where they kept her lovingly as a pet until the husband had a stroke, and they had to move to an apartment. She has been in a foster home for about a month, and now she lives with us!

She is housetrained already, and knows some basic commands (tho she doesn't really listen to "sit" or "stay" when she's out on walks....yet). She is very friendly and loveable, yet has quite the bark (which i've only heard twice - once when a strange man a.k.a. Tony walked into the backyard while we were playing, and once at a dog that was barking at her). She loves to play fetch, is great on car rides, and i guess she loves to swim, though we have not taken her out to do that yet. She's quiet and well behaved in the house, but gets excited to meet new people and tends to jump up and demand attention - something good training and firm discipline should fix.

So yeah, we're going to obedience school after our holidays (we're spending next week in Cypress hills, hopefully, if the fire ban doesn't get more widespread).

well, things have taken a shift from the last post, but progress is being made. Should know something for sure by the weekend, or early next week at the latest.
