Lyn's Thoughts on Life

July 18, 2005

This is beginning to feel a bit like a "Dear Diary, Today i did...." type blog, but alas, that is where my life has been focused as of late. So please bear with me.

I am healing well. I'm back on the bike and walking fine...the knee gets a bit inflammed and sore, especially towards the end of the day, but all in all, life is mostly back to normal.

I start my holidays this week - July 21 to Aug 2, so that will be very nice. I will only have infrequent internet access during that time, though, so the blogging will be sparse.

My sister's wedding is next Sunday (Jul 24), so that should be a fun time. It's at boffin's and should be a pretty ritzy affair. And as of yesterday, I have my outfit completed....hopefully the knee will hold up in 3" heels :) I'm also looking forward to spending time with my other sister and her husband who are coming down for a week.

And then after the wedding is 8 days of utter relaxation, a large part of which will be spent at the lake with Anthony. We have not had a real holiday for a very long time, so this time together with very little scheduled will be cherished.

Yay for holidays! Here's hoping for good weather.

so, sgi is now saying it's my fault 'cuz i happened to be crossing over a crosswalk area at the time i was hit....so they're not going to cover my bike or my injuries.

Update

sorry i've been silent. I've been at home recuperating, and have no internet access there.

I'm doing alright...still pretty sore, still limping, still waiting for wounds to heal, still waiting for SGI to call me.

yup, 5 days after I get hit by a car, and I still don't have a personal injury rep. But i won't rant about that now...we all know how sucky it is to deal with them.

But i have learned a few lessons and had a few epiphanies from this incident....

1. (via Karen...) It's funny how we always think that change is a slow process, but it can actually happen in an instant.

2. (via Jody...) The thing to do is to focus on the positives...it could have been WAY worse than it was. The injuries I have won't kill me, and my body is slowly healing itself.

3. I am learning to graciously accept the helpful offers of others. I'm usually a pretty self-sufficient person, so to have to rely on the goodness and generosity of others to get a ride to work, for example, has been a learning experience. But Jen (after driving me to my doctor's appointment on Friday), said to me "Ya know, Lynette, Thanks for taking me up on my offer to help out, to take you places. So often friends offer to help other friends, but then they aren't taken up on the offer. And it feels good to help a friend."

I'm sure there are many times when we could use a friend and a helping hand, but we are often too self-sufficient to accept their offers, or even to right out ask for a favor. But we all know that we'd be more than willing to do so if asked. Maybe we need to learn to rely on each other more. I think that's what real community is about.

There's a few other things that I have learned and realized, but they are escaping me right now, so i'll write them later if they come to me.

Oh, and one more thing....if I ever get seriously injured again, i'm definitely going to sign up for water therapy...I spent some time floating in the lake this weekend, and it was like a magic elixir.... felt soooo good to get all the pressure off the injuries, and to bathe them in cool, soothing liquid that took some of the swelling down.....

what a morning

today, i was late for work.

because i got hit by a car while i was biking here.

ow.

i'm a bit shaken up, and have a bunch of scrapes, and my one leg is really swollen and bruised and my knee hurts tons.

it was on campus, and the campus cops and paramedic took care of me and fixed me up as best they could.

but i could really use another ice pack.
