Kinda makes ya sick, in a way...

.
I told her I was going to share this on my blog, and she didn't protest. So here it is.

My sister is trying to gain weight for her wedding. Her beautiful silk dress that fit her perfectly 2 months ago is now loose. So she's on a diet of bernard callebut chocolates, and cheesecake.

.
Not sure why, but this song has really touched me lately.

Coldplay - Fix You
(from the album "X&Y")

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

When the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
and ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

High up above or down below
when you're too in love to let it go
If you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
and ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Last night....

.
We had some cake.

Not just any cake.

Special cake.

From a special occasion.

Cake that my mom had saved for us.

from our wedding 3 years ago.

(surprisingly, it still tasted pretty fresh! She had wrapped it well and frozen it)

my results....

I have to admit, i hadn't even thought of some of the issues that came up in that quiz. And for some of them, they seemed so obvious to me to be either "completely right and true" or "totally false, duh!" statements, but then i realized that that's what it was measuring...for some of those things, you may have answered completely opposite that I did, that's why it's a theological WORLDVIEW quiz, not a Theological Correctness quiz.

You scored as Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan. You are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God's grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavly by John Wesley and the Methodists.

....and time, goes by, so slowly, and time, can do, so much....

WHATEVER!!! (to borrow a term from my teen years).

Well, yes, time can do so much, but i sure don't believe time goes by so slowly! Right now it seems to be speeding like a freight train.

Time......3 years ago right now, i was arriving at the church for my wedding.......seems like we haven't been married THAT long! (I know, it's really not that long in the grand scheme of things).

And this Sunday will mark 6 years of being together. 6 years!!! That means that 6 years ago, i was just going into my first year of university.

And a week after our wedding, friends of ours, Ryan & Allison got married. Now they're expecting! Congrats! 3 years.... I always said we'd wait a while before having kids, and we said "in a few years"......which seemed like forever away.....

The 3 years of marriage, and the 6 years that we've been together have been good. We have fun, we bicker (!), we support eachother through tough times, we share our souls and our daily lives. And that's what marriage is about.

So happy anniversary, Anthony, and here's to many, many more wonderful years. Just think, if we live 'till we're 85, we'll be married for 60 years.......then right now, we're only 1/20th done this amazing adventure.

Disclaimer: I am not much of a reader....

.
So I hope you're not disappointed with my Reader's Survey responses. I haven't read a whole lot of non-academic books since starting college (followed by University) in 1997. This is not to say I don't enjoy books, they have just not been a large part of my life in the past while. I have never read Harry Potter, Left Behind, or LOTR, and I am more likely to be found these days with a Reader's Digest or magazine in hand than a book. But here goes....

1. Number of books I own: A count of my bookshelf (singluar) this morning revealed 85. Approximately 50% of which are college books, with a few psychology and music books thrown in. Most of my Univ. texts are now in boxes in storage, so they are not counted in this number. Oh, also not counting cookbooks, of which I have many

2. Latest book(s) I am reading: A.W. Tozer Pursuit of God, and a series by Ted Dekker (see below)

2. Last book I read:Black, by Ted Dekker. A very captivating book. Picked it up from the library because I hadn't read a novel in so long....now I'm waiting for book 2 of the series (of 3) to be returned so I can read it next. I left the protagonist sleeping on a bed with an assassin's gun to his head....so I really hope that whomever checked it out returns it SOON.

And I read my Betty Crocker's Big Red Cookbook....that book has SO much about every cooking question you've ever had...much more about the information than about the recipes, though the recipes are great too. Very straightforward and simple without a whole bunch of non-staple ingredients, which is what bugs me about many other cookbooks.

3. The last book I bought was:Well, to be honest, I think it may have been a coffee table book on Frank Sinatra that I picked up for $3 in Montana in Sept '03. Eek! But the last book I acquired was the Handbook of Mathematical Cognition, in which I am a published author. My copy was given to me by the editor of the book, he signed it for me. And i'm in the acknowlegments too....should be after spending hours and hours and hours making the author and subject indexes. Note to my readers: no matter how much money someone offers you to create a subject or author index for a book, DON'T DO IT!!!!

4. 5 books that mean a lot to me:

a) The Bible - not to be cheesy, but it is the book I read most frequently, and even more frequently when navigating life's challenges.

b) A book of good poems - My dad's old english text from high school, but it contains all the classics of poetry, plus some new stuff (well, new for 1962....), AND it has my dad's comments and doodles in it (and let me tell you, english class in general, and poetry in particular was NOT his forte nor his interest, so those doodles and notes are pretty entertaining!)

c) The Monster at the End of This Book Starring Loveable Furry old Grover. 'nuff said.

d) I have a few that i'll lump together here....classic Christian literature, including A.W.Tozer's Pursuit of God, and C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity. Though I haven't read these ones for a while....

e) Betty Crocker's Big Red Cookbook. The new standard in my kitchen :)

yay! Happy Weekend!

So my boss emailed me right before lunch....asked if I could come down to his office for a second to talk....

So I went down, expecting to talk about a few of the projects we have ongoing....

Instead, we started talking about our weekends...we're heading to the lake after work, and he's going to Calgary. So then he says "well if you don't have any appointments or work that has to be done today, you might as well leave early, say 4pm!"

So I thanked him, and we went on our way.

Then I got back to my office, and got an email from him, and he said "Actually, Lynette, if you don't have anything pressing, why don't you leave at 3pm? Just count it as a full day worked, of course"

I have the bestest boss.

Honeymoon's over

I dislike drips.

When we first bought this place, the downstairs bathroom sink was rusted out. So we replaced it.

Then we found out that the bathtub with shower doesn’t drain well, but soon realized that if we back off the water pressure in the shower it drains fine.

Then we found out that the sprinklers work, but we couldn’t turn them off….finally found the manual switch on the electronic valves, but one is broken so if the main outside water valve is on, the garden is under a permanent shower….

Then our sink in the kitchen had a pool under it, a few times.... sometimes after we used the dishwasher…but no specific pattern…..figured out the sink connections were leaking, so put a bucket under it with the intention of fixing the connections when we had some time…

Then this morning I was downstairs and something was dripping from the dishwasher area (above) into the utility room….figured out that we weren’t catching the drip under the sink, and that it was pooling in the lowest place and then out the hole that the dishwasher sits in….dripping into downstairs…so now I have a bucket upstairs and one downstairs. Sigh.

So even though the rain is finally gone, water is still our foe and our woe.

I knew my love of his music had to come from somewhere...

I found something out this week.... (bear with me until we reach the final destination here...)

My piano teacher was Janet Wendland.
Janet's teacher was Lyle Gustin.
Lyle's teacher was Jennette Daurno.
Jennette's teacher was Theodor Leschetizsky.
Theodor's teacher was Carl Czerny.
Carl Czerny's teacher was Ludwig Van Beethoven.
