I guess we're not the only ones...
...who find the boys in our basement very annoying and inconsiderate and rude.
So, many of you know that for the past 1 1/2 months, we have had very unsavory downstairs neighbours - two young males (plus their girlfriends who have decided that this is a good place to spend many of their evenings, cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry for the boys). They are very noisy at all hours of the day and night, and don't seem to care that there's others in the house (i.e., us) that are trying to live there in peace. We have talked to them numerous times about being quieter, not banging doors and yelling in the middle of the night, not parking in the driveway in such a way that blocks our access to our parking spot, etc.
So one of the things that the guys have been doing lately, which Anthony had warned them not to do, is parking in front of the neighbour's house - we know that he can be a bit grumpy at times. Cumberland ave has been plowed many times this winter, resulting in large piles of snow in the parking lanes beside the sidewalks. Now, both the neighbours across the street and the ones beside us have taken the time and effort to shovel these piles of snow away so that they have space to park THEIR cars. And the boys only have one car, but since the girls and other friends are always there, they need more parking than the one spot on the driveway that they have. So they have been parking in our next door neighbour's nicely shoveled street parking spots. And our neighbour has been asking them not to, and they have continued their behaviour. So last night, he had finally had enough.
About 11pm, anthony could hear someone shovelling outside, and he looked out, and the neigbour was shovelling his snow from his front lawn onto the street around and under where the boys' car was parked in front of his house. Anthony and I had quite the chuckle over this, as we knew what was coming....And my, was he ever shovelling! He was out there for about 10-20 minutes, and he had snow packed quite well on all 4 sides of the car, from the ground up past the bumper! Quite a feat for a 60-something year old man.
Soon enough, the boys figure out something was wrong, and they came outside to investigate....upon finding their car half buried, they started yelling and cursing at the old man.....asking him what the $#(*&% he thought he was doing! That was THEIR car! He calmly but firmly explained that they were parked in his spot, in front of his house. They retorted that it was a #$(*#$@^'in public street, they could #(*&#$&*( park wherever the @#()*#%*& they wanted to. To which he replied "yes, but i had cleaned off this spot for myself, but since i'm not the one using it, i just figured i'd move the snow back!" They had a few more choice words for him, then they stormed away, got their car keys, came out and moved the car (the neighbour had shoveled them out enough that they could drive it away). So they proceeded to drive around the corner and park in front of someone else's house. They came back and paraded past the neighbour's house waving their longest fingers in the air towards the man's living room yelling "#)($*&#$@%*(& you! I hope you can see me! #@)(*&%*()$&%*$" - and boy, did they ever look silly waving their arms at him and gesturing towards the neighbours house....
And Anthony and I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. What a wise man. I think the message finally got through to these guys in a very tiny way that they cannot just do whatever they want without regard for others.
and yah, you can debate about parking rights on public streets, but these guys are just too lazy to grab one of the numerous shovels that are at the house and availble for use, and shovel their own parking spot in front of our place.
At least their car was driveable....i do believe that the last time people parked regularly in the neighbour's parking spots that he flattened their tires!
