Lyn's Thoughts on Life

summertime

well, it's almost august. which is good because august is typically nice hot lake weather (which we hope to enjoy as much as we can on the weekend), but bad because it means summer is almost over. I saw a pic of drifting snow the other day, and it seemed too close and too real. Ack!

I am definitely a summer person, I love the heat (minus the heatstroke which I get too easily). I love being at the lake. I love those hot summer nites when you can wear shorts at 11pm and not be cold. And the summer festivals, and the smell of the air.

Which brings me to my next point....is anyone thinking of going to the Fringe or the Ex this year? And what are your plans for the Aug. long weekend? I was thinking we should have a good ol' gathering, perhaps with a bonfire somewhere, on this coming Friday nite. What do you think???

Can you imagine??

Well, I knew that many people were upset in the States about their 'civil liberties' being threatened since 9-11, but I didn't realize how real it was, until i read this story....

And then I went to the guy's website, and read his story from his own perspective, and I was sickened.

Can you imagine what it would be like? I would be angry too! I'm glad we live in Canada, but I'm sad that this is becoming acceptable in 'civilized' society.....and I sure hope we're not next.

It probably arose from the paranoia and hysteria that the US Gov't has created, that anyone of color is a potential terrorist. I can just picture someone (probably white) calling in to the security station at this landmark and saying "there's some colored guy taking pictures and writing things down...i think he may be planning a terrorist attack..."

Great way to keep your country together and keep people living side by side in harmony, eh?

Hmmmm...

I feel I should write something, because I made changes. Up on my links (if you haven't noticed yet). I used to go through Robyn's blog to read all these other blogs, but now I have them linked directly.....

AND one of my tasks at work this week was to help create a new website for our lab, which Kris (my co-worker) and I attempted to do according to my boss's specs.....I'm not sure about it, so once we post it, I'd love some feedback.

This week has felt like the first real week of summer, and has been a mini-holiday, with somthing to do and people to see every evening...we took in lots of the jazz festival, spent lots of good times with a variety of friends and family, and even got 11 phone messages at home in one day! Woo hoo! (now i just have to return all those calls...)

And bike riding. and golf. I got 61, 2 better than anthony. I told him that if I beat him 5 times in a row, I can officially say i'm better than him. So tomorrow we'll try again. I'll keep you updated on how i'm doing.....
