"Passion" .... a.k.a. Amazing Love
Well, Anthony and I went and saw the movie this afternoon. We received an unexpected invitation and just went.....I'm glad, b'c it gave me less time to spend in anticipation/dread, less time to figure out how I was feeling about actually going to see it. I was very apprehensive at first, quite like Robyn in her blog on this subject. Didn't wanna sit through something that would just make me feel bad, make me realize again the scum that we are.
But i was pleasantly surprised. It was quite gory (I had to close my eyes a couple times), but to me it was a realistic picture of what He went through. And the overwhelming message that I got from it was one of LOVE.... that He did this for me, for us because of Love. Not guilt, Actually, I found that I focussed more on Him, and what He must have been feeling (emotionally and physically) and thinking as he went through all that, not on myself and how I was feeling. And I cried, but not because I felt bad, but because I was so thankful that He chose (and yes, I think he could have threw in the towel) to suffer like that to make a way between God and people. I cried because I realized the immense physical pain He went through.....so many images of Christ on the cross picture him quite "intact", but I realized that with the intense beatings he received in the hours before the cross, and the crown of thorns, and having to carry his own cross to Golgotha......that He had suffered for hours before He even reached the cross. That His body being broken and His blood being poured out was finished at the cross, but the suffering went further than that.
It's hard to put it all in words. But I would say, do not be afraid to go see this movie. Even if you think you will feel awful after. Everyone's response is different, but I was overwhelmed by His love and His suffering....like the song:
I'm forgiven, because you were forsaken
I'm accepted, you were condemned
I'm alive and well, Your spirit lives within me
Because you died, and rose again....
AMAZING LOVE! How can it be?
That You, my King, would die for me?
AMAZING LOVE! I know it's true.....
